Moving with children can be stressful. It’s only natural that you would want your kids to be content and comfortable during a move. And as a parent, you’ll stop at nothing to make that a reality. However, during a move, you also have to think about the moving tasks that need taking care of. There are plenty of expert movers Jersey City NJ residents recommend for being great at taking on moving tasks. However, some tasks, such as unpacking, need your involvement regardless of the movers you choose. That said, unpacking can be much faster if all family members are contributing. Not only that, but unpacking after a move can be a cute family activity you all will remember fondly. Unfortunately, including kids in the unpacking process can sometimes be tricky. Here’s how you can do it and make it fun for both you and your children.

Unpacking – An activity for the whole family, kids included

Unpacking is more often than not a tedious process. Same as packing, it takes a lot of time and effort. The initial unpacking can be especially tedious since you have to decide where everything will go. That in itself can be tiring and overwhelming. Unfortunately, the moving services NJ movers offer don’t really include unpacking. That means that you, yourself, will have to do it.

Luckily for you, time passes much quicker if you’re having fun. But how can unpacking be fun? Well, listening to some music or an audiobook is an option. However, engaging your partner and children in the unpacking process can be equally as fun, if not more. You can even make a little event from it. Kids can find almost anything entertaining if you make it so. So, it’s up to you to create an atmosphere your kids will enjoy.

Including kids in the unpacking process is a learning opportunity

Even though this may arguably prolong the process, you can use unpacking to teach your kids some important skills. But, if you’ve managed your time well and moved with expert movers like All Season Movers, you’ll probably have plenty of time to spare. Unpacking is a great way to teach how to fold clothes, how to organize a cabinet, how to be careful with dishes and other fragile items, and above all, how to be patient. These are just a few basic skills you can teach your children while unpacking, but there are many more. Try being creative and thinking of what else you could teach your kids while unpacking.

Make unpacking fun for the whole family

If you asked your family what they wanted to do, unpacking would probably not be on the list, ever. However, that doesn’t mean unpacking can’t be fun for the whole family. After all, what has to be done, has to be done, and you might as well make it fun. To make unpacking fun you can:

    • Play games while unpacking. Playing games while unpacking is a great way to spice things up. Good ol’ car games are the best option. Playing games like the alphabet game and I spy can make time go by much faster.
    • Play a move you all enjoy in the background. Time passes much faster with some entertainment. And what’s more entertainment than a movie you enjoy? To make unpacking go by faster you can play a movie, both you and your kids enjoy, to watch while unpacking. However, beware that you are at risk of your little ones simply drifting off into the movie and forgetting you and the unpacking even exist.
    • Sing along to the music together. Anything can be turned into a fun event with some music. Play some of your favorite tunes and jam to the music while unpacking. You can even sing karaoke together. However, if you’re not a family that loves singing you can simply play some music you all enjoy. That, too, will make packing much more fun.
    • Prepare snacks in advance and enjoy them while you unpack. There are many easy, tasty, yet healthy snacks for the whole family to enjoy. You can even prepare them together in advance. What in life isn’t better with a tasty snack?

But before you involve your children in the unpacking process…

Before you involve your children in the unpacking process it’s important to assess what your child can and can not do. As a parent, you’re probably already aware of your child’s abilities. So keep that in mind when giving your children tasks. For example, folding T-shirts might be a great task for an 8-year-old, but not the best task for a 4-year-old. Said 4-year-old might be better off just taking clothes out of the boxes. However, keep in mind that not every child is the same. Make sure you give your child a job he or she will be able to complete effortlessly. As long as you’re aware of what your kid can and can’t do unpacking will go smoothly.

Remember that kids get tired more easily

You should also keep in mind that your children aren’t you. They don’t have the same capabilities as you do and they can’t be as productive as you can for as long as you can be. So if your kids are becoming cranky let them rest, nap, or play. After all, unpacking is primarily your job as a parent. Make sure to not push your kids over their limits!

Getting your kids included in the unpacking process can be fun for the whole family

Unpacking with kids can be either a messy disaster or a fun activity both you and your little ones will enjoy. Which way it will go mostly depends on you. It’s no secret that kids sometimes want to do what they want to do, and will do it regardless of what the adults want or demand. However, in most cases, including your kids in the unpacking process isn’t as hard as it seems. Hire quality movers Maplewood NJ residents love and recommend, and use the extra free time you have to plan the moving activities with your kids. Unpacking is not the only task you can involve your kids in. Be creative and make unpacking and moving enjoyable.
